NEVER FORGET THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE (April 24, 1915)
The Armenian Genocide was the systematic killing and deportation of 1.5 million Armenians by the Turkish Ottoman Empire during World War I. Leaders of the Turkish government premeditated to exterminate and massacre Armenians. It was on April 24, 1915, that the Turkish government arrested and executed several hundred Armenian intellectuals. After Armenian intellectuals were arrested, ordinary Armenians were turned out of their homes and sent on death marches through the desert without food or water. The marchers were stripped naked and forced to walk under the scorching sun and if they stopped to rest they were shot. During this time, the Young Turks created a special organization which was made up of murderers and ex-convicts who drowned the Armenians in rivers, threw them off cliffs, raped women and forced them to join the Turkish "harems", crucified them and burned them alive. The government then kidnapped children, converted them to Islam and gave them to Turkish families. Since this dark time in Armenian history, the Turkish government still denies that Armenian Genocide took place.
Friday, April 24, 2020 is the 105th Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide
